This was a commissioned piece that I did for a friend. She wanted a painting reminiscent of her grandfather’s barn and happy childhood memories of playing in the hayloft. I asked her what type of barn, fields, and tree line he had, and what type of sky she preferred. After that she gave me leeway in the design and opted not to see the painting until it was finished. I had fun using a palette knife to create a newly tilled field with puddles in the foreground. We were both happy with the outcome.

I love this post – it’s great to hear where your inspiration comes from. And I love the use of the palette knife. It really gives the sense of the texture of the fields.
